Properties, Storage and Cautions:

Iron nanoparticles are highly reactive and flammable, therefore it should be handled with care and rapid moves, vibrations should be avoided.
Nanopowder should be kept away from sunlight, any kind of heating, moisture and impacts. Coagulation of the particles is a serious problem,
so, nanopowder should be sealed under vacuum and should be kept in cool and dry conditions. Air contact should be avoided.

Applications:

  • Biomedical: Utilized in magnetic hyperthermia, targeted drug delivery, and biosensing platforms where surface functionalization and magnetic responsiveness are critical.
  • Environmental: Applied in groundwater remediation and pollutant reduction via redox-active surfaces, especially in systems targeting chlorinated organics and heavy metals.
  • Catalysis & Energy: Serve as active sites in hydrogen production, fuel cell reactions, and electrocatalytic processes due to their high surface area and electron transfer capacity.
  • Magnetic Devices: Incorporated into magnetic separation systems, sensor platforms, and prototype data storage media where coercivity and magnetic saturation are tunable.
  • Materials Engineering: Used as sintering aids, grain refiners, and reinforcement agents in metal and ceramic matrices to enhance mechanical and thermal performance.
  • Chemical Processing: Employed in reactive formulations and surface-driven transformations where iron’s catalytic role supports process efficiency and selectivity.
