What are MAX, MAB Phases & MXenes/MABenes?
MAX Phases are ternary carbides and nitrides (Mn+1AXn) that uniquely combine metallic conductivity and machinability with ceramic‑like thermal stability.
MAB Phases are structural analogs to MAX phases but utilize boron instead of carbon or nitrogen. These ternary borides are distinguished by their high hardness and, in certain compositions, unique magnetic and magnetocaloric properties.
MXenes & MABenes are produced through the selective etching of the "A" element from their respective parent phases.
