Europium Oxide (Eu2O3) Powder

Europium oxide (Eu₂O₃) is an important rare-earth metal oxide. This material generally has a cubic crystal structure although it can also have a monoclinic crystal structure as well. Eu₂O₃ is commercially available as an odorless white powder that is considerable insoluble in water and easily dissolves in the acid environment. The melting point of the material is around 2050°C. Furthermore, europium oxide nanoparticles show paramagnetic properties. Eu₂O₃ is considered to be one of the best oxide phosphors due to its optical properties. The luminescence of Eu3+ ion from the Eu₂O₃ structure is particularly important and interesting because the major emission band is nearly centered at 611 nm (red), which is one of the primary colors. Europium oxide nanoparticles are utilized in display technologies, red powder activation of color TV, fluorescent lamps, biomedical sensors, photocatalysts, fluorescent glass, and ceramic additives.
